Eco Church

We believe that it is our responsibility as Christians to care for the world around us. To help us do this, we take part in A Rocha’s Eco Church, an award scheme designed to equip churches with the information they need to make environmentally friendly choices. We are pleased to have been awarded our Bronze and Silver awards and are currently working towards Gold.

The Eco Church award scheme challenges us to think about our impact on the world in five key areas; Worship and Teaching, Buildings, Land, Community and Global engagement, and Lifestyle. You can see the summary of our progress over the past year in these areas here.

Recent changes we have made

Our gardening team have been working hard to improve our outdoor space. They’ve dug flower beds to make the area look attractive as well as providing a home and food for bees and wildlife. We’ve installed water butts to collect rain water for watering the plants and have installed benches so that we can all sit and enjoy the garden.

We’ve created a bug hotel to encourage insects to make a home in our grounds. We also held a workshop for our children and families where they created their own to use in their gardens.

We’ve started having milk delivered in reusable glass bottles and use a local wholesaler to buy food for church events.

We had solar panels installed on our sports hall roof to help reduce our energy usage.
